Just as the name suggests, the object rotates around the thumb, this takes practice so stick with it, in time it will just come natural.
Hold the tin/bottle at its base & push it away from you whilst flicking the object with your fingers, rules of gravity will force it floorward bound, try to counteract this by moving your hand in a upwards motion this should allow the bottle/tin to travel round the thumb ready for the catch as it ends it rotation. Remember practice makes perfect!
